2025 Paint Colour Trends: Hue Year, Hue Me

2025 Paint Colour Trends: Hue Year, Hue Me

The arrival of a new year is always an exciting time, with fresh hopes and new trends all entering the fray. Home design is no exception, with a stunning array of colours set to make a splash in 2025.

Discover our top paint colour picks for the year, from the endless possibilities of purple and green to nature-inspired shades and futuristic hues.

1. Purring for purple

Purple is having something of a moment right now, which started when it strutted onto the catwalk in various guises. It was only a matter of time before purples were popular inside (and outside) our homes – and that time has definitely come in 2025.

As a less common choice in home design, purple invites creativity, letting you choose a shade that perfectly suits your space. There’s everything from deep dark aubergine to light lilacs – not forgetting the character-packed plum.

Each shade has its own varieties too. For example, plum can be deep like Boujee and Boho Berry or subtle like Bandido (below). Purple hues have been highlighted by several ‘Colour of the Year’ selections, so we expect them to make a bold statement in homes throughout the year.

2. Setting the scene in green

In the Chinese zodiac, 2025 is the year of the Snake – a symbol for rebirth, resurrection and new opportunities. No colour embodies this better than green. It’s beautifully natural and synonymous with spring, the season of new life.

Greens are cooler colours but not devoid of warmth. This makes them perfect for creating balanced spaces that are grounding, familiar and versatile. Forest greens and olive greens are particularly popular at the moment, with the former deep and dark while the latter offers lighter hints of brown or yellow.

Pop culture had its own green moment in 2024, with Charli XCX’s “Brat” album going viral and inspiring its own lifestyle. Brat was even named as Collins Dictionary’s word of the year. This certainly contributed to the popularity of greens as a whole, but the abrasive brat green tone doesn’t offer quite the same versatility and homeliness as the options we’ve discussed above.

3. Paint the town brown

Browns are overtaking neutrals, offering a versatile backdrop that’s a touch deeper and darker than your average beige or cream. This is reflected in Pantone’s 2025 Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse, which has a “suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort”.

Is brown the new black? It certainly seems that way. The boldness of many browns allows them to replace black to create contrast against lighter neutrals or pops of colour – though this does depend on the type of brown you choose.

If you want to use brown as a neutral, try light shades like Take the Biscuit (below) or a grey with brown undertones like Swayed.

But if you're after a rich, moody alternative to black, why not add a little flair with colours like Drama Llama or Liquorice (below).

4. The rise of biophilic design

You’ve probably read a thousand times that environmental awareness is on the up. But as we head into the second half of the decade, this is even starting to have an impact on the way our homes look.

Biophilic design is the idea of connecting ourselves to nature, which comes in many different forms. Natural light is a big one, creating an airy atmosphere with bigger windows – or just by moving furniture around to maximise light. Other techniques include the incorporation of natural materials and natural shapes or patterns throughout your home.

When it comes to paint, there is no surprise that natural colours are on the list. But it’s not just about using the colour groups we see in nature – browns, greens and blues. For a completely organic look, try using muted tones, which avoid the sometimes-synthetic appearance of bold, brash colours.

5. Going back to the future

Who said trends have to work together? In contrast to the calming vibes of biophilic design, 2025 also marks us taking one step further into the world of AI and space exploration.

No, we’re not talking about Marty McFly – the DeLorean has been superseded by machine learning and the fast-approaching reality of commercial space travel.

To reflect this, we expect sleek silvers such as Swanky Pants and Grey Pebble to become more prevalent, along with digital blues like Heavenly Blue and Beach Hut (below).

If you really want to embrace the futuristic look, metallic paints are a fantastic option. They add a bit of glitz to furniture or fixtures like doors or other woodwork.
