When it comes to transforming furniture or giving your home and garden a fresh new look, the main thing you need is enthusiasm, vision and a can-do attitude! The rest Frenchic can help you with. Firstly, the best paint in terms of coverage, type, colour choice and a range of different finishes and secondly, the right tools for the job. Frenchic’s brush range is specially designed for our award-winning chalk and mineral paint, so every stroke feels smoother, the job gets done quicker, and the result is more professional. Read on to meet the brushes…
Oval Brushes
Frenchic’s Oval Brushes are made in Italy and feel just lovely. Designed to ensure maximum paint pick up, which means a generous amount of paint per ‘dip’ allowing you to cover a large area in one go before re-dipping.
Their oval shape and large number of ultra-fine bristles per brush means fewer drips, little to no brush marks and smoother application with excellent coverage. They’re also lightweight and have an easy-to-grip handle.
The Oval Brushes come in four sizes, petite, small, medium and large so whatever project you are working on, Frenchic has the right size for the job. Also, if you have small hands, or find that your wrists ache when painting a lot, you can choose one that is not only perfect for the piece you are working on, but also perfect for you.
Both the petite and small brushes are available in both natural bristles (70/30 mix with synthetic material to keep their shape) or fully synthetic so you can choose a brush based on your personal preference.
Wax brushes
Again, so tactile to touch, we have both a small and large Wax Brush. They can be used to create an aged look with Browning Wax, highlight details with Defining Wax, achieve a soft, bleached-out look with White Wax, or seal our Original Artisan Range. Our Wax Brushes make the process quicker, easier, and more precise.
Made with a blend of natural and synthetic bristles, their shorter length with a rounded grip handle, gives you extra control, making waxing effortless. If you’re trying our popular Beam Hack (using Crème de la Crème and Browning Wax to transform old dark beams), our wax brush is your secret weapon for a perfect finish
Top tip: A quick tip when using wax for those hard-to-reach places, why not use our little stencil brush? Before using one of our larger wax brushes with clear wax to blend.
Flat and Decorating Brushes
First up, our Flat Brushes, which come in both small and medium size. They’re ideal for cutting in when painting a room or using on wood trim like skirtings or architraves around the doors. They also have long, tapered soft synthetic bristles for a really lovely finish.
Then we have our beautiful set of Detailing Brushes (they come in a set of four) for when you need that delicate touch. They’re perfect for hand-painted designs (especially things like leaves) and the slanted brush is ideal for painting curves.
Top tip: Use the Detailing Brushes for applying our metallic Frensheens mixed with Finishing Coat.
Next, the Stencil Brushes which are a lovely addition to our range and will ensure a crisp outline to your stencil. Less paint is best when it comes to stencilling, so dab any excess paint on your brush off onto kitchen towel before you dab the paint onto your surface.
Finally, we have our Blending Brush, which was developed for gently blending one colour into another to give an “ombre” effect. It’s super-easy to hold due to its shape, and you can cover a large area in just a couple of brush strokes. The Blending Brush is also great for putting the top layer of paint over our Easy Crackle for the perfect crackle effect.
How to Care for your Brushes
As all of our paints are water-based, just wash your brushes in warm soapy (washing-up liquid is fine) water, making sure to get to the base of the brush. Then rinse well. We recommend either lying the brushes flat when drying, as opposed to being propped up in the sink, or hanging up to ensure that the brushes keep their shape ready for your next project.
Top tip: Some of our stronger colours may slightly stain natural bristles, this is normal and won’t affect the future performance of the brush.
Once you have painted with a great Frenchic brush you will never want to pick up any other type again – as they really do make that much of a difference!
