Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a place that reflects your personality to create a peaceful haven. But, tastes change - and if the look you once loved is started to feel a bit tired, maybe it’s time for bit of a bedroom makeover.

I know that finding time for a full room transformation can be tricky, so I’ve come up with some simple and quick Frenchic painting and upcycling ideas that will make a big impact to the look and feel of your bedroom.

1. Explore colour and texture

Sometimes a blank wall can feel cold, uninviting and it’s all too tempting to cover it in colour. Take a step back and consider whether combining colour and texture will create the warmth and atmosphere you’re looking for.

Installing panelling is so straightforward nowadays, and it’s a great way to introduce a new colour to your bedroom - maintaining fresh cream or white in the top third to avoid it feeling too dark or overpowering. Here we’ve applied Hebrides Chalk Wall Paint to the panelling using a Petite Oval Brush to get into the grooves for a professional finish.

2. Banish boring bedheads

The clue is in the name, the bed is the focal point of every bedroom - so by upcycling your existing bedframe or bedhead you can completely change the style of the room. This project is a great example of using simple furniture painting techniques ( and some elbow grease) to give imposing, dark pine bed a classic French rustic look that brightens the entire room.

Clean the furniture with sugar soap lightly sand and brush down before dry brushing with your chosen Frenchic colour. It’s so simple, just keep the paintbrush very dry and use the tiniest amount of paint to apply with rough strokes to create a rustic, weathered look.

3. Freshen-up furniture

Sometimes a quick lick of paint makes all the difference. If you’re feeling bold and in need of a change, just choose your new favourite Frenchic shade and use it to freshen up your current bedroom furniture. Start small with a bedside table and once you’re happy - move onto dressers and drawers to create a matching set - just like we have here.
