Pallet Bar Makeover with Frenchic Paint & Wax
Revamping a pallet-built bar area can completely change the atmosphere of your space, giving it a fresh, new look. In this step-by-step guide, Craig Phillips shows you how to create a stunning bar makeover using Frenchic paint and furniture wax.
Follow these instructions to get a fantastic finish.
What You’ll Need
- Wire wool brush
- Sugar soap
- Polythene sheet
- Masking tape
- Frenchic Browning Wax
- Frenchic Flat Brush (50mm)
- Frenchic Large Wax Brush
- Paint sprayer (optional)
- Frenchic Al Fresco paint
Prepare the area
Before you begin, protect the surrounding areas by covering surfaces with polythene sheets and securing them with masking tape. This will help avoid unwanted paint splashes and make cleaning up easier. Use a wire wool brush to remove any flaking paint or other debris and then clean down with sugar soap, rinse and allow to dry before you start painting.
Apply the paint
For this project, Craig uses Frenchic’s Al Fresco Wise Old Sage, a versatile paint that works well for both indoor and outdoor projects.
If you decide to use a paint sprayer for application, remember to dilute the paint with 10% water. This helps the paint flow smoothly through the sprayer and ensures you get even coverage.
Craig recommends applying a minimum of three coats of paint, spraying from left to right in smooth, overlapping motions. This is because thinned paint requires extra coverage. Remember to make sure each coat dries fully before applying the next one.

Apply the furniture wax
Next, Craig recommends using Frenchic’s Furniture Wax on the surface. Furniture wax is ideal for indoor projects and will give your wood a lovely, polished finish while protecting it from wear and tear. Here's how to do it:
- Use a stiff paintbrush to apply the wax generously onto the surface of the wood.
- Let the wax soak into the wood for about 30 minutes. This lets the wax penetrate and highlight the grain, which brings out the natural beauty of the wood.
- After the first layer has soaked in, apply two more layers to give a rich sheen and added protection.
With the paint and wax fully applied and dried, your new bar area will have a fresh, professional-looking finish and be ready to enjoy!
