If you’re concerned about paint chipping, you’re not alone. While all paints may chip over time depending on use and environmental factors, Frenchic paint is designed with quality and durability in mind. Below, we’ll explore how to keep chipping to a minimum.
What causes paint to chip?
Paint chipping can occur for several reasons, including:
- Wear and tear: High-traffic areas or frequently used surfaces, like kitchen cupboards or furniture, are more prone to chipping.
- Surface preparation: Insufficient preparation will likely affect the long-term durability of the paint.
- Environmental factors: Moisture, heat and temperature fluctuations can affect the longevity of the paint.
- Impact or heavy use: Bumps, knocks or regular handling can contribute to chipping.
Why Frenchic stands out
Frenchic paint is a premium product designed with durability in mind. Its high-quality formulation ensures excellent adhesion to a wide range of surfaces, including wood, composites and uPVC. This makes it more resistant to chips compared to lower-quality paints – a natural choice if you want a long-lasting finish.
All our paint products are self-priming, so they adhere to your suitable surfaces without the need for extra products – and extra work!
In addition, our wide range of paints includes options with self-sealing and weatherproof properties, like the Al Fresco range, which adds an extra layer of protection.
How to minimise chipping
To ensure the best results and reduce the likelihood of chipping, follow these best practices:
- Prepare the surface: Proper preparation is crucial. Clean the surface thoroughly using Sugar Soap to remove dust, grease or debris, and sand for better adhesion.
- Prime if required: For bare, porous surfaces, priming with Frenchic’s Finishing Coat or Tuff Top Coat can improve application and stop too much paint being absorbed.
- Use top coats: Adding a top coat like Finishing Coat or Tuff Top Coat is necessary when you’re using Original Artisan paints – our other ranges are self-sealing and very durable once cured. However, it can also be added for extra peace of mind or an additional layer of protection on high-traffic surfaces.
- Follow instructions: Always follow the manufacturer’s guidance for application, drying times and number of coats.
Long-lasting results with Frenchic
While no paint is entirely chip-proof, Frenchic’s high-quality formulation and best practices can help your painted surfaces look their best for longer. With the right care and attention, you can enjoy beautifully painted furniture, walls or outdoor spaces with minimal chipping over time.
