4 Creative Ways to Re-use your
Peel & Stick Samples

Being a company who loves to upcycle and recycle, here are a few ideas for what to do with your Peel & Stick Chalk Wall Paint Samples, once you have decided on your favourite wall colour, and don’t want to throw them out. I went for an autumn feel and got crafty!

1. Leaf Garland

To make this leaf garland I used some leftover Peel & Sticks Samples in the rich autumnal colours of Constance Moss, Lime Light, Fifi's Fancy, Pickle and Hot as Mustard.

Firstly, I folded the Peel & Stick Samples in half (the tip here is to make the fold while the backing is still on), then remove the backing and stick both sides together, so the colour will be on the back as well as the front.

I then drew a leaf shape – which you can do freehand, but I cheated and used a leaf shaped biscuit cutter I had (don’t we all!) and cut them out with craft scissors.

To mimic leaf veins, I made a few more folds in the sides and punched a hole in each one (I used a wooden kebab stick which worked really well) and threaded a piece of string through each one.

I tied each one individually onto a thicker piece of string so I could space them out equally (ish!). You don’t have to tie them in a garland; they’d look just as good scattered on a tabletop or dinner table. You could use them as gift tags, or place name settings, or even Halloween decorations.

2. Plant Pot with Peel & Stick Leaf Stickers

The plant pot I used was already white, but you could use our guide to paint and prep terracotta pots if yours needs repainting.

I used a small leaf shaped punch to cut out lots of little leaves in various colours from my leftover Peel & Stick Samples.

It is a little fiddly to peel the backs off such small shapes but do persevere as they will look great when they’re done. I then stuck them onto my plant pot at random.

It gives such a lovely nod to the autumn months approaching. You could add a layer of Frenchic’s versatile hard-wearing Finishing Coat on top to seal and protect it. Or you could leave it as it is, then at Christmas, why not peel off the leaves and replace them with a Christmas themed cut out?

3. Two-Tone Plant Pot with Peel & Stick Samples Used as a Stencil

Rather than just throw away the part of the Peel & Stick Sample I had used for my first plant pot project (this one is Apple Barn), I used it as a stencil!

As it's sticky on the back, it’s just perfect to stick onto the pot and especially great to go round the plant pot’s round corners.  I placed all the cut out “stencils” around the pot.

Then, using our lovely stencil brush and one of my favourite paint colours, Funky Dora in the Lazy Range, I dabbed the paint onto the pot before removing the stencil – it’s best to do this when the paint is still wet. I only did one coat and made it quite random so that the appearance was more “leaf like”.

4. Wooden Coaster - Using Cut Outs for Masking Out

My next project was to create autumnal coasters, and I love these – leaves on wood, what could be more seasonal?

I had plenty of leaf-shapes left over after creating my plant pot, so I decided to stick them down firmly onto a wood slice. You can buy the wood slices in packs, so it’s easy to create a whole set of coasters. They also make the perfect gifts.

I then painted over the top of the wood slice using Funky Dora from the Lazy range and one of Frenchic’s Detailing Brushes, and removed the leaf stickers to reveal the wood.

I then used Frenchic’s Browning Wax  to enhance the look and protect it. This worked really well as the texture of the natural wood (revealed after removing the leaf cut outs) meant that the wax grabbed different areas, creating lots of tones. Perfect for replicating natural leaves. I think this one was my favourite!
