I'm so excited to show you these colourfully painted signs I made for a children’s Easter egg hunt. They're all made from reclaimed pallet wood, and I'm really pleased with how they've turned out! They're the perfect way to point little ones towards getting a basketful of fun. Check out my video for a step-by-step guide on how you can make your own colourful, eye-catching signs.

1. Select Pallet Wood

Choose your pieces of reclaimed pallet wood. They come in various shapes and sizes, and this variation will add to the unique character of your signs.

2. Mark Cutting Lines

Using a pencil and ruler, draw the desired shape for your signs directly onto the pallet wood. I did a simple arrow shape on one side.

Step Two: Mark Cutting Lines

Using a pencil and ruler, draw the desired shape for your signs directly onto the pallet wood. Consider simple shapes like arrows.

3. Cut and Sand Wood

Carefully cut out the marked shapes using a electric or hand saw. Once cut, thoroughly sand down the surface and edges of the wood with 120-grit sandpaper until smooth to the touch.

4. Apply Sealant

Before painting I would advise sealing the wood with some finishing coat or tuff topcoat. The wood isn’t treated, and this will allow for a better finish. I gave each side two coats.

Step Four: Apply Sealer

Apply two coats of a wood sealant, such as Frenchic Finishing Coat or Frenchic Tuff Topcoat, to all sides of the sanded wood. Allow each coat to dry completely according to the product instructions. This step is crucial for a better paint finish on untreated pallet wood.

5. Apply Your Paint

Once the sealant is fully dry, apply your paint. I chose a mixture of pastel and bright colours from the Al Fresco range. This durable and weatherproof paint doesn't need an undercoat, so you can apply straight to the wood. Ensure even coverage and allow the paint to dry fully.

6. Get Creative!

Now for the fun bit! Paint on your Easter bunnies or eggs and of course, the words to guide your little egg hunters. What every like in any colours you fancy!

7. Protect Your Signs

For extra protection to make signs last, apply another layer of finishing coat to protect your signs fully.

Step Six: Get Creative!

Now for the fun bit! Add paint for things like Easter bunnies, eggs, and of course, the words to guide your little egg hunters. Use whatever colours you fancy!

Step Seven: Protect your designs

For extra protection to make signs last, apply another layer of Frenchic Finishing Coat or something similar over your painted designs. Let it dry properly.

8. Get Ready for the Egg Hunt

Grab your chocolate eggs and get ready for the fun to begin! Try not to eat them all before Easter, like me – easier said than done, right?!
