Key FAQ Points:
- Your choice of paint will depend on the surface, with wood and PVC the two most common candidates.
- Paint will need to be water- and UV-resistant if your playhouse is outdoors.
- You should also consider low VOC paints and EN71-3 certification to avoid harmful chemicals being released when the playhouse is used.

If you want to give your kids’ playhouse a new lease of life or a pop of personality, paint is the way forward. It’s quick and easy, as long as you choose the right products.
Consider the materials
Different paints adhere to different surfaces, so the first thing to consider is what your playhouse is made of. The two most common materials are wood and uPVC.
There are a range of paint products available for wood, along with alternatives like stain and varnish. PVC is a little trickier, as its smooth surface doesn’t naturally lend itself to good adhesion.
Fortunately, there are some paint products that adhere to both like Frenchic’s Al Fresco, Trim Paint and Lazy Range. You will need to give the PVC a light sanding before painting to abrade the surface so the paint can adhere.
And the location…
Another factor is where the playhouse is situated. If it’s indoors, you’ll have a lot more options available. On the other hand, outdoor playhouses need paint that’s resistant to both water and UV rays.
Our Al Fresco range ticks both boxes, as well as adhering to lots of different surfaces. Take a look at this before and after with Frenchic Paint and see for yourself!

Don’t forget child safety
Safety is paramount when a playhouse is being used by children. Fortunately, all Frenchic paints are low in VOCs with EN 71-3 certification for use on children’s toys. In short, this means that they have passed tests to show that harmful chemicals will not be released in harmful amounts when the playhouse is used.
