Key FAQ Points:
- Al Fresco, Trim Paint and Chalk Wall Paint are recommended for high-temperature paint up to approximately 60°C. We do not recommend painting surfaces where the temperature is likely to exceed 60°C.
- Avoid painting anything that could become too hot to touch
- High heat can cause discolouration, blistering or flaking, even with heat-resistant paint
Heat-proof paint is a must for lots of projects around the home. Radiators are among the most popular, whether you’re refreshing them in white or transforming them with a pop of colour. Frenchic’s high-temp paint allows you to do so with great results, but there are some things to bear in mind…
Using Frenchic’s heat-resistant paint
Al Fresco, Trim Paint and Chalk Wall Paint are the paint ranges we recommend for high-temperature applications. However, you should always make sure the surface you’re painting has fully cooled before applying your paint.
Additionally, ensure the surface is in suitable condition for painting and free from grease, wax or penetrating substances. If it’s been previously painted, you should remove loose or flaking paint. Any existing rust, damage or similar will need treating and removing. Finally, follow our usual preparation tips:
- Clean with Frenchic Sugar Soap
- Rinse and dry thoroughly
- Hand-sand sufficiently to abrade the surface
- Wipe off any dust
The painted surface should also remain cool for 48 hours afterwards to allow effective initial curing. Keep the area well-ventilated for a few days if there’s moisture in the room’s air, like there will be in a bathroom.
While table tops, radiators and fire surrounds are ideal uses for our heat-resistant paint, we don’t recommend painting chrome radiators or anything that could become too hot to touch. This includes the hearth of a fire, for example, if you have a real fire.
Why? Extremely high heat can lead to discolouration over time, as well as blistering and flaking in more severe cases. In short, your paint job and stylish new appearance simply won’t last.
