Key FAQ Points:
- Ultraviolet (UV) light can degrade some paints, causing discolouration and flaking
- Frenchic’s Al Fresco range is UV-resistant for outdoor use
- You should still avoid direct sunlight when applying paint and for 48 hours afterwards
---
From external doors to garden furniture, most surfaces you paint outdoors are exposed to the sun. That means they’ll have to withstand ultraviolet (UV) rays – even more so if they’re south-facing.
If your chosen paint isn’t UV-resistant, the sunlight can cause photodegradation. In short, your paint degrades over time, leading to:
- Discolouration – Your painted surface could fade or change colour
- Flaking – UV rays break the bond between the paint and the surface, leading to cracking and flaking
UV-resistant paint from Frenchic
With Frenchic’s Al Fresco range, you don’t have to worry about photodegradation. Our paint has been specifically formulated for outdoor use (as well as indoor projects), which includes both water-resistance and UV-resistance.
However, even with UV-resistant paint, it’s important to avoid direct sunlight while applying your paint and for 48 hours afterwards. This provides enough time for effective initial curing, so your paint can properly adhere and bond to the surface.
